Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, has secured an agreement with the state of Gujarat, India, to build a new automotive production factory.
In India, the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 is taking place in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, in the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and government officials. The basic agreement was revealed during this ceremony, which was attended by Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki.

Suzuki Motor Corporation, a Japanese manufacturer, plans to invest ₹3,200 crore in expanding its Gujarat production facilities. At the Vibrant Gujarat 2024 summit, Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motors Japan, announced an extra ₹35,000 crore investment to establish a second 1-million unit facility in Gujarat. The automaker’s plans in India include launching an electric vehicle by the end of the year, which will be sold to Japan and Europe.

The new Gujarat factory is scheduled to begin operations in FY2028-29.

Suzuki also announced the construction of a fourth production line for Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (“SMG”), with an investment of 3200 Cr. rupees, with the goal of increasing electric car production in the future. The fourth line is expected to begin operating in fiscal year 2026. SMG’s yearly manufacturing capacity will be increased from 750,000 to 1 million units once the fourth line is completed. With the new Gujarat plant, the state’s overall production capacity will be 2 million units.

Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motors, stated that the business plans to launch the first electric vehicle from its Gujarat plant by the end of this year. “We plan not only to sell this model not only in India but also export it to Japan and some European countries,” he added.

In addition to being offered in India and Europe, the car will be shipped to Japan, marking Maruti’s first sale to its parent company’s home nation.

Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motors, stated – “Suzuki will invest 3200 Cr. rupees in Suzuki Motor Gujrat to add new fourth production line. It can produce 2.5 lakh car per year. This will increase the annual production capacity of Suzuki Motor Gujrat from the current 7.5 lakh to 1 million unit. We (Suzuki Motor) will invest 35000 Cr.rupees of construction of second Car plant in Gujrat which will produce another 1 million per year. As a result the annual production capacity in Gujrat 2 million unit. Mainly 1 million unit are SMG and 1 million unit in second new plant”.

To reduce carbon emissions, the Japanese company announced plans to build biogas plants in Gujarat that will create compressed natural gas, bioethanol, and green hydrogen.

“Taking advantage of India’s animal wealth, we will start production of biogas from cow dung together with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Suzuki, Japan has already started construction of four biogas plants in the state,” he said.

Suzuki intends to establish a production capacity of approximately 4 million units in India by FY2030 in order to prepare for future expansion in the Indian vehicle industry. In addition to the new facility in Kharkhoda (State of Haryana), which is scheduled to open in 2025, we will continue to support SMG’s strategy, which includes a new plant in Gujarat and its fourth production line.

President Suzuki stated during his statement at the ceremony, “In this ever-growing country, we will provide a variety of sustainable mobility options by focusing on Indian customers.”
